Volunteers are essential to the OKC-County Health Department and its mission. Volunteering at OCCHD is a wonderful way to support your community.
We have a variety of opportunities to fit your schedule and interests. Q: How can I start volunteering at the Oklahoma City-County Health Department (OCCHD)?
A: Complete the volunteer application or request an application by mail. Medical volunteers can also sign up with the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps. This is a statewide volunteer group that volunteers in different health-related ways, especially during disasters. Medical and non-medical volunteers are needed in the OKMRC. If you are not interested in joining OKMRC, you are still able to volunteer at OCCHD through this website.
Q: Does a volunteer need to fill out an application?
A: Yes, there is a volunteer application you will need to complete before beginning your position at OCCHD. You may also call (405)425-4448 to receive the application by mail.
Q: Where do I return my application?
A: You may return your application by emailing it to email@example.com, or you can mail it to ATTN: Student Liaison at 2600 NE 63rd ST, Oklahoma City, OK 73111.
Q: What else do I need to do before I can begin my volunteer position?
A: We will contact you after reviewing your application. OCCHD will assist volunteers with obtaining background checks, immunizations records and TB skin tests. You also may need to complete a minimum level of training deemed necessary for the department in which you are volunteering.
Q: How old do you have to be in order to volunteer?
A: The minimum age is 14 with parental consent.
Q: I am only available certain days of the week or certain times. Can I still volunteer?
A: Yes! We are very willing to work with your schedule so you can be utilized.
Q: Who do I contact if I have a problem and will be late my first day?
A: Volunteers will be provided with a supervisor's name and phone number prior to arriving at OCCHD. You should contact the supervisor if you have any problems. If you cannot contact the supervisor, you may try to contact the Student Liaison at (405) 425-4448.
