Seasonal Flu
Who Should Get the Flu Shot?
OCCHD recommends flu vaccinations for everyone over 6 months of age. People at high risk of serious complications from flu are especially encouraged to get the flu vaccination. Those at greater risk include pregnant women and anyone with asthma, diabetes, chronic heart and lung disease, or other chronic health conditions. Parents and caregivers of infants and toddlers, and anyone who lives with or cares for someone at high risk for complications should also get the vaccine.
How Much Will it Cost?
The standard charge of $25 per shot will be waived for those who qualify. Anyone seeking a fee waiver must bring written proof of eligibility.
OCCHD provides flu vaccinations at no charge to individuals or families who qualify through a variety of programs. Those eligible include:
- Families with income at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level
- Seniors who are on Medicare
- Children who have no health insurance, or are on SoonerCare or are Native American or Alaskan natives, or children whose insurance does not cover vaccines
All documentation must include the name of the individual seeking vaccination fee waivers. Eligibility documents may include:
- Most recent pay stub
- 2010 Income Tax Return
- WIC (Women, Infants and Children nutrition program) card
- SNAP Food Stamp benefits Access card
- Proof of enrollment in Temporary Assistance to Needy Families
- Proof of enrollment in SSI Disability assistance
- Sooner Care card
- Medicaid card
- Medicare card
- Homeless shelter services card
We have Vaccines for Children (18 years or younger) for those who qualify. Please see our Vaccines for Children section for more information. For anyone over 19, we will have the flu mist and flu shots available, and high dose shots for older adults (over 65 years old).
Children and adults with health insurance that covers vaccines and those with incomes above 185 percent of the poverty level will be charged a fee of $25.00 to cover the cost of the vaccine and the cost of administering the shots. OCCHD cannot bill health insurance for individual vaccinations, but some insurance companies may reimburse members who provide receipts. OCCHD will accept cash, check and credit cards for payment.
