Through this initiative, the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services purchased validated developmental screening tools to distribute to primary care practices. The Oklahoma Health Care Authority facilitated notification about the availability of these tools to Sooner Care primary care providers. Oklahoma State Health Department Child Guidance staff are available to provide local consultation to primary care providers. If requested, staff will assist with the implementation of developmental screening in local primary care facilities. As an added benefit, Child Guidance staff will assist their local physicians in developing linkages to appropriate local resources, monitor follow-up and facilitate systems that improve communication between the primary care provider and the developmental services.
