Diabetes Prevention and Outreach (DPOP)
Provides diabetes prevention education for Oklahoma County residents at risk of developing diabetes. DPOP also provides free diabetes screening for adults18 years and older. For more information, please see our DPOP page.
Oklahoma Cardiovascular Health Survey (OKCHES)
The purpose of this study is to obtain previously uncollected baseline health information on a random sample of Oklahoma adults. The study design is a population-based, cross-sectional study with three components:
- Phone interview
- Physical examination/laboratory measurements
- Written food frequency questionnaire
The 2008 BRFSS (CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System) is used as the initial sample of survey participants for the study. Participants who complete the BRFSS will be asked if they would like to participate in the OKCHES. Examination and laboratory measurements include:
- Height and weight
- Waist circumference
- Three blood pressure measurements
- Lipid panel, fasting plasma glucose, high sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (Direct LDL)

Chronic Disease Prevention (Currently under development)
This program will provide chronic disease prevention classes to Oklahoma County businesses, churches and other interested groups. It will also provide information and education regarding a variety of health matters by offering participants practical, workable tools that support healthy lifestyle choices
Classes will provide information regarding:
- Nutrition
- Portion size
- Exercise
- Adult immunizations
- Smoking cessation
Classes will also encourage participants to choose to live a healthy life with the goal of preventing or delaying chronic illness.
