The terms trash, junk and debris are used to describe a wide range of things that are conducive for the breeding of rodents and insects. Anytime you can provide one of three things:
- Food,
- Water, or
- Shelter,
you have created an environment or attractant for rodents and insects. Anything that can shield the elements is considered a shelter. When you have things packed into an area and not off of the ground pest control, is greatly hindered. Even spaying can be wasted due to a shelter being created. Often complaint findings reveal rodents underneath decks and outbuildings lifted high enough to get under but not high enough to see under. Leaving any type of basin that can collect water will attract rodents or insects. Often just living near a creek, storm drain, or pond will count as a great source, so it’s important not to create the other two if you live in these types of areas.
