Prevention and Control of communicable diseases including Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) is listed among the ten essential Public Health functions. Our STD clinic services are available to anyone twelve years of age and older. Our clinic provides evaluation and treatment of some STDs with an emphasis on prevention.

With a staff of four clinicians (RNs), a Supervisory Nurse, and two LPNs, the clinic averages over 700 clients per month.  An Infectious Disease physician from the OU Health Sciences Center is on call for consultations with our staff.  Disease Intervention Specialists are also available to offer clients additional education and Partner Notification Services. Translator and social worker services are available to our clients when needed.

The STD clinic is a walk-in clinic.  As of September 15, 2008, our clinic hours are:

In the 1997 Institute of Medicine Report, STDs are referred to as “The Hidden Epidemic.”  The report states, “of the top ten most frequently reported diseases in the US, five are sexually transmitted diseases…with approximately 12 million new cases of STDs occurring annually.” The impact is greatest on women, young adults, and adolescents.  OCCHD is committed to reducing the number of STDs in Oklahoma County.

Most sexually transmitted bacterial infections are curable!  And even most viral infections such as Herpes and HIV are treatable and manageable if detected early. But most importantly, all Sexually Transmitted Diseases are preventable
